Best known for her outlandish outfits, or should I say wardrobe because it is what she wears on a daily basis, Lady Gaga has transformed some of the ways in how we perceive contemporary pop culture. In only five years, Gaga has been able to achieve major icon status with her albums at the top of the charts and her concerts that gets sold out in seconds. Her songs, which sometimes reflects experiences that she went through, are played all of the time in radio stations across the world. I remember the mainstream radio station in I my hometown would sometimes even play three different Lady Gaga singles throughout the day. Unlike other pop artists, however, Lady Gaga goes on to a whole new level when it comes to expressing her character and the message that she is trying to send out. From a metallic planetary costume, to a bird’s nest mask, to a meat dress, there is no idea what to expect from Gaga every time she is out in public. If Lady Gaga was a state though, I believe that it would be a state similar to United States but with a more opened type of liberalism.
When analyzing Lady Gaga, one would say that she is someone who is very liberal and free in the things that she does. By free, I mean that she does what she wants and is not worried about what people think of her. In a state where it would be characterized by this similar personality, we would see an acceptance in all the different customs that is presented to the county. In a way, this is something that is the same in the United States. The difference, however, is that there are a lot more limitations in the relationship between the two because of United States’ current social and cultural norm. If Lady Gaga was a state, its citizens or what she calls them “little monsters” would mostly likely have the right to do what they want with little to no restrictions. The downside to this though is that too much freedom will eventually lead to conflicts between different individuals. Unless we were to live in a Utopia, I believe that there is always a distinction in ideas.
The idea of having a Lady Gaga state sounds like something that many people would be fine with, mainly because of the amount of fans that admire her. However, I believe that the acceptance of every idea that is introduced to a culture would violate the international rule of stability and having a limit on how far an action can go. Assuming that the Lady Gaga state does, in fact, exist. Most of the “little monster” would agree to spread its culture to everyone else because it is accepted by a majority. Would the Lady Gaga state affect the rest of the world and try to change the culture of the other countries?
I agree with your thoughts about the Gaga nation being similar to the United States in terms of straying from the status-quo. Your point about our acceptance of all different customs made me wonder if the Gaga nation would ultimately collapse because of them. If we have many conflicts surrounding the inability for everyone to be accepting of controversial issues such as gay marriage and abortion, would the extremity of her outlandishness cause even more conflicts and stronger opinions? To answer your question, I don't think that the state would try to change the culture of other countries, but I think it would be accepting of those who wanted to come and practice their personal beliefs in the state, similar to the United States.
